Australians have another reason to be proud of as the cities of the ‘Land Down Under’ rank among the best in the world. The Worldwide Quality of Living Survey has reported that Aussie cities are considered as among the best in terms of quality of life. The survey has been conducted by Mercer, a human resources consultancy firm. There were 39 criteria that were used to determine the overall quality of life in each of the cities. Among the parameters were the political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health, education, transport and other public services. A total of 215 cities were evaluated, and then compared to New York City. Data were collected and analyzed from September to November 2006.
Sydney ranks ninth on the list, ahead of Melbourne at 17, Perth at 21, Brisbane at 31 and Adelaide at 32.
"Major Australian cities continue to rank favourably against other cities from around the world from a quality of living perspective," Mercer practice leader Rob Knox said today.
"They all offer a great selection of restaurants, are well-endowed with recreational facilities, have well-established transport infrastructure and provide a wonderful environment in which to raise families.
"They tend to rate favourably because they offer residents and visitors the full package."
